Downlands Artistic Skating Club is a vibrant learning community where coaches, parents, skaters and athletes work together to achieve the best possible results in every aspect of achievement. History of the Club

The Club was formed by David C Bullock and his wife Shirley over 30 years ago. The couple are well known in the Swindon area as they were cofounders of the Thamesdown Roller Dance Club, The first dog training school and one of the longest serving bridal ware shops in the town. They actually met on a pair of skates in Swindon many years ago. They have watched as the club grew from a handful of beginners, guiding them through club, national and international level competitions; they has seen off a split in the club and are now working towards a brighter future with a new energy and development plan. Though it is great to sing of ones accomplishments over the years, it does not help your athletes of tomorrow. For this reason David and Shirley are looking to bring the sport they are passionate about into a new level.

What is...

...Roller Skating?

To many it is a hobby or activity that can be done in sports halls, roller rinks, on the streets, in parks or along promenades. Its a way of keeping fit and active and socialising with others. However, what if I was to tell you that it is also an internationally recognised sport with a well organised competitive structure from club level to world class. It is a sport with so much to give people in building not just their sports ability but their life in general.

...Competitive Roller Skating?

There are, in total, seven disciplines that make up competitive roller figure skating. These include solo dance, couples dance, compulsory figures, free style, pairs freestyle, precision and show skating. It incorporates speed, agility, balance, artistry, strength and stamina into a programme that entertains and pushes the barriers of human ability. Roller figure skating only has one difference to it close cousin on ice and that is the skates. However recently, with the introduction to inline figure skating as a recognised national and international championships event that is blurring the edges. Watch Ice or Roller figure skating on television and pay attention to the body and not the feet and it is hard to tell the difference.
